To ensure impartial oversight of trivia competitions worldwide, the TFA operates under a structured governing council designed to balance expertise, transparency, and fairness.

TFA Governing Council

The Governing Council is the highest authority within the TFA. It establishes official policies, approves fairness standards, and oversees major investigations and disciplinary actions.

Composition: 11 voting members serving staggered four-year terms.

Council Positions

Chairperson of Trivia Integrity

Leads the council, presides over meetings, and represents the TFA in international affairs.

Vice Chair for Competition Standards

Oversees rule development and tournament certification.

Director of Question Verification

Maintains standards related to question accuracy, sourcing, and fact-checking.

Director of Player Conduct & Ethics

Oversees fair play rules and disciplinary procedures.

Director of Event Certification

Approves tournaments and leagues seeking official TFA recognition.

Director of Historical Records & Archives

Maintains historical documentation of competitions and investigations.

Director of Technology & Competition Security

Develops policies addressing electronic devices, broadcasting issues, and emerging technologies.

Three Regional Representatives

Represent the interests of trivia organizations across major geographic regions.

Community Liaison Representative

Serves as the voice of trivia hosts, players, and independent quiz leagues.

The Fair Play Tribunal

An independent adjudication panel that handles disputes, appeals, and formal investigations.

The Question Standards Committee

Develops guidelines for trivia content to ensure questions meet TFA requirements for:

  • Proper sourcing of factual information

Regional Advisory Boards

Provide local guidance and feedback to support the global trivia community.

  • Recommend tournaments for TFA certification

  • Assist in resolving local disputes before tribunal escalation
